To kill a Mockingbird

Brother,

Though I had to wish for it and I feel I am bleeding out as I walk I had to give up love. In pursuit of your dream I realized that a decision had to be made. And, inevitably, it lead to her leaving me.

She has a great debt to a dead man, now repaying his son for it. I understand her decision as much as I dislike it. Maybe some time in the future she may find her way back. When her debt is paid. When her master is no more. Or she may return to me with lillies to put down at my grave.

I cannot say whether it was right or wrong to let her go. But I feel that I would have done her a great injustice, had I tried to stop her. She did not leave because it was easy. My belief is that leaving me was the harder path to choose. Perhaps that is my own vanity.

Now all I have is your broken dream and the intention to reclaim it. Brother, do not forsake me in this. And pray for me that I shall see her again. If not in this life, then in the next.
