My tribe has granted me a sanctuary in what is called the Redmond Barrens. That is the name the people of this City of wasted Water have for it. There is water, everywhere. One can simply turn a lever and the water starts running. I think that this constant supply has made them lazy. Inappropriately so. I shall not succumb to their temptations. The tribe also requested that I set up an account for myself. Within the City of wasted Water they value money as if it were pure water. They know nothing. But I have been taught well. I understand that there are necessities that I will not be able to comprehend just yet.
It did not take long for Rising Moon to contact me. She has earned her name by establishing herself within the society of healers, as much as I can gather. Very eager to help. But I had no wish for troubling her more than I absolutely have to.
Next I was asked to meet one Harry Dick. A profiteer of the worst and therefore best kind. I doubt that he earned the name through any important deed. Around here people are named at birth, having accomplished nothing. My tribe has given me a name as well, yet it is not the one I earned. It is merely masquerade. Something I need to have so that local authorities can handle a person, should they have to.
So Harrydick provided me with my first mission. He gave me a name, a face – and told me to catch the man for him. I made a child’s mistake in approaching the man once I had shot him down, wounding his legs as to achieve the higher price on his head. A mistake I corrected soon enough. One I shall never make again. It only goes to show that I still have to work hard to earn my name so I can return to my tribe a proud man.
Eventually I managed to track down the stranger a second time, took him down for good and handed him over to the people who had passed the contract to Harrydick. They paid a bonus as well. I am not enough of a fool to believe they did it out of charity. It would probably have been best to destroy the device I found on the stranger before I handed him over. However, I have no quarrel with them nor him. I care little about those contraptions. The contract has been fulfilled. There will be new ones.
Harrydick was satisfied as well. I am sure the tasks he has for me will keep me entertained. For a while.
