Dearest Lady Amundeville,
My beloved Adeline. Powers within the city of Acheron are shifting. I am uncertain whether or not to welcome this recent development. I hesitate to look upon this favorably, yet I am left with little choice. It has been made clear to me that I am to cooperate under any given circumstance. Doing otherwise would endanger my own position. A risk I am unwilling to take at present. Among those changes is the appearance of a new player within the city. All smiles and pretending. Knave should be an appropriate name then. Though why Lady Caroline saw this to be necessary I cannot tell.
Someone I should consider an ally has proven himself to be much less than that, despite the ties of blood that bind us. Sir Karl has unknowingly brought a debt upon me that I will likely find hard to repay. The sewer rats are not easily swayed. Their representative, though kind and courteous enough, certainly is no fool and perhaps more of a danger than any of the others. The Joker than.
On a better note Perrito, whom You have already met, is doing nicely and in part makes up for Sir Karl’s failings. However, his position only allows for so much. None of the things he can accomplish could ever make up for the short comings of one of our kind…
Once more I have been asked to seek out the Preacherbeast. A task I am not looking forward to at all, despite the fact that it should hardly pose any risk. Though what can come from it I do not know. I see little benefit in it. And yet once more I am left with little choice.
My Love… I hope there will soon be better things to report on. That the news I can bring You will be of a more pleasing nature. But the goal I strive for is worth all hardships and troubles, as You are certainly aware. Therefore be patient and bear with my not being with You. I shall keep You in my thoughts and prayers.
Yours, unbroken
