Iason, Morning Day 4

My dear Gale,

After having survived a fire in the SickBay, another Cylon attack and a fight with a splinter fleet, I am still safely on board the Iason. Last night, for the first time since I have lost my sight, a woman died in my arms. All I could do was comfort her in her final moments. I am not sure I even accomplished that much. Yet I have to trust that I did.
I have decided to no longer keep a physical file of any patient. I was informed by Ensign Telman that not only do the CO and XO have access to those files, but also that she thinks she is my superior officer. Strangely enough I outrank her. That is, if my status were active. Which it is not, only nobody bothered to tell that to my ID. Being inactive makes me a civilian. Thus I do not listen to anything she has to say.
But then, the military loves its rules, so I will consult with the local JAG representative Captain Dr. Hayes. The woman is friendly enough and used to be a prosecutor before all of this. If anyone will find the flaw in my actions, it will be her.
Somehow I have also managed to make friends on board. Loose bonds still, but it is entirely comforting to know that they’re there. One among them being Roland Bauer. So many people here who came from nothing, trying to raise themselves to better themselves. Flawed, as each of us are. Still doubting themselves. I wonder whether their friends in the mess hall know their true faces. Or whether they themselves do.
Either way. Should they force me to keep a written file, I will use my loss of eyesight as an excuse to not keep them. Should they insist on someone helping me write, I will claim that this would breach client trust in my profession. I hope this will fool them long enough. But I will not disclose those files to anyone. They will have to shoot me for that.
I really could use your advice on this, Gale. Gods know how much I miss you. The funeral of Farmboy last night made it all too clear again.
And Gale – whatever happens. Don’t let them kill life, even the Cylons, in my name. I promise I won’t let them do that under your name either.
I love you.
